Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that from January 1, salaries for State Police officers will increase. During a conference, Rama also announced that every police officer who was on the ground during the student protest will receive a reward of 2,500 euros. He argued this decision with the resistance, sacrifice and commitment of the officers during the protest, emphasizing that the reward will be given without making any distinction between them.
"It's not something I'm saying today, as a result of what's happening, that we've been sitting here for a few weeks, now that they're preparing the new budget, the minister has said publicly that we're going to significantly increase your salary. That at the beginning of the year, when we found the police betrayed and abandoned with some here pushing cars because they ran out of fuel on the road, we made a significant increase then to tell the police that you are the foundation of the state. But over the years the truth is that we haven't increased your salary enough. We were talking a few weeks ago.
So with the new budget from January, your salary will be increased significantly. On the other hand, for all the resistance, sacrifice, courage and above all for the dignity with which you are facing not only these but also those who massacre the police on the screens, demanding that the police surrender, we will immediately make available to you an amount of 2500 euros for each officer who is on this front because you have not only the stress but also the need to spend at this moment on extra things. And we decided to do so without making any difference," said Rama.
