Andi Bushati: Why stones and Molotov cocktails became inevitable

This youth revolt has had a great merit. It made known to the general public the most criminal side of this regime that had until now been preserved in the most secretive recesses. If the extremely peaceful revolution of the flamingos showed us that this government was no longer popular, its radical epilogue, with stones and Molotov cocktails, is serving to bring to light that the autocrat is capable of using any means to stay in power.

Slowest penalty in history ends in disaster: 16 seconds to travel 6 meters

If Simone Zaza's run on July 2, 2016, during the Euro 2016 quarter-final between Italy and Germany, seemed slow — with the ball going high and the Italians eliminated — then Trayvone Reid's shot at the Caribbean Cup stopped time: 16 seconds to travel about 6 meters from the penalty spot. There was the ball, with which he could have given Mount Pleasant a double advantage against Club Sando. Instead, it all ended in disaster, with the goalkeeper easily saving the shot.

In Couva, a city in Trinidad and Tobago, at the Ato Boldon Stadium — yes, the one named after the sprinter who won several Olympic and world medals — the first semi-final match between the Jamaican team Mount Pleasant and the locals Club Sando took place. The friends took the lead in the 11th minute, and in the 36th minute they had a great opportunity to score the second goal. It was then that Reid decided that the time had come to make his name known to the whole world.

Reid's strange idea at the Caribbean Cup: running like a turtle

The 26-year-old Jamaican striker, who has also been capped by his national team, took the ball with the confidence of someone who knew exactly what he was going to do. He then prepared a shot that, according to his idea, would completely confuse the opposing goalkeeper. Reid thought he would take the concept of running towards the ball — if you can call it that — to a level never seen before. Thus, he approached the penalty spot with incredible slowness, while all the Club Sando players, especially goalkeeper Teshorne Ragoo, wondered when this scene would end and the striker would shoot the ball.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Reid kicked the penalty. A truly terrible execution. Ragoo easily saved the ball, leaving his team only one goal behind. The mistake was very costly for Mount Pleasant, as Club Sando managed to equalize in the second half, obtaining a 1-1 score that leaves everything open for the return match, scheduled for Thursday, October 22, in Kingston, Jamaica. The team that will qualify will face the winner of the other semi-final, between Jamaican team Portmore United and Haitian team Violette, in the Caribbean Cup final.
