The academic community has officially and massively joined the popular revolt. 735 professors and well-known names in education and public life have signed a lightning-fast 5-point declaration, initiated by the Forum for Political Dialogue, in which they urgently demand the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, the formation of a caretaker government, and an immediate end to police terror against youth.
Shocked by the unjustified violence and blatant violation of human rights during the days of protest, educators have made it clear that they can no longer stand by as spectators in the face of the oppression of their students.
5 Points of the Academics' Declaration:
The Prime Minister is called upon to pave the way for peace in the country by resigning. The creation of a caretaker government is demanded to ensure institutional stability and respect the will of the citizens.
The State Police and law enforcement agencies are requested to immediately stop acts of violence against students and to categorically refuse to implement illegal orders.
Diplomatic missions in Tirana are asked to intervene publicly to stop the violation of fundamental rights and freedoms.
Protesters are called on to protect businesses and public and private property, removing any alibi or pretext for the regime to use violence and delegitimize the revolt.
The citizens of Tirana are asked to stand up for the youth and become a shield against state violence, just like in the historic days of the fall of the dictatorship.
