How Rama is leading the country towards civil strife

Insisting on violence, on arming civilians, on paying police officers as if they were mercenaries, alone does not produce peace. Edi Rama's fear of where he will end up when he is no longer prime minister does not have to become Albania's nightmare.

Andi Bushati: Why stones and Molotov cocktails became inevitable

This youth revolt has had a great merit. It made known to the general public the most criminal side of this regime that had until now been preserved in the most secretive recesses. If the extremely peaceful revolution of the flamingos showed us that this government was no longer popular, its radical epilogue, with stones and Molotov cocktails, is serving to bring to light that the autocrat is capable of using any means to stay in power.

BILD: Clashes, fire and calls for Rama's departure in Tirana

German media outlet BILD has dedicated an article to the recent protests in Albania, focusing on the escalation of tensions in Tirana, clashes between protesters and police, and dissatisfaction with the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama.

In an article by journalist Marc Oliver Ruehle, BILD writes that the Albanian capital has been engulfed by violent protests, with reports of damage to buildings, fires and the use of tear gas and water cannon by the police.

According to German media, hundreds of students and citizens have taken to the streets to protest university conditions, tuition fees, and to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.

BILD reports that the situation during the protests has escalated, with demonstrators throwing stones and incendiary devices, while fires have been reported in several buildings.

According to the article, protesters broke the windows of the Ministry of Education and threw flares inside its premises. Afterwards, thick smoke was seen coming out of one of the windows, while firefighters intervened to put out the flames.

German media also mentions the damage to a bank branch and the burning of documents, as well as a fire in a building that, according to reports, appeared to be uninhabited.

The article also returns to the events of Tuesday, when protesters entered the Tirana Municipality building and there was damage and arson.

According to police data cited by BILD, 16 people were arrested following the incidents.

German media also cite figures for people who received medical assistance during the clashes, including police officers, protesters, journalists and bystanders.

The article also reflects the reaction of the European Union Delegation in Tirana, which expressed concern about the escalation of violence and called on the parties to reduce tensions.

The EU has also called for an investigation into allegations of excessive use of force by police against protesters and journalists.

The developments also take on importance in the context of Albania's European integration process, which continues negotiations for membership in the European Union.

BILD also focuses on the protests known as the "Flamingo Protests", which are related to opposition to the project to build a luxury resort in a protected natural coastal area.

The project, linked to Ivanka Trump, the daughter of US President Donald Trump, and her husband, Jared Kushner, has sparked debate over environmental impact, transparency and suspicions of conflicts of interest.

According to German media, dissatisfaction with the tourism project is now being accompanied by student revolt, who are raising concerns about the costs of education and conditions at universities.

Thus, protests over various social and environmental issues are becoming part of a broader climate of dissatisfaction with the Albanian government, while demands for Prime Minister Rama's resignation have also been articulated during recent rallies in the capital.
