Riot in Pisa prison, Albanians and other prisoners clash with Italian police

A riot broke out Wednesday evening at the Don Bosco prison in Pisa after some inmates discovered wiretapping devices in their cells. About 40 inmates took control of a ward and demanded to meet with prison officials. The situation was brought under control after several hours of negotiations and police intervention. Some of the suspected organizers were transferred to other prisons in Tuscany.

The riot began at around 7:00 p.m., after a prisoner conducted a live broadcast on TikTok from inside the prison, using a cell phone illegally. The broadcast was watched by about 15,000 people before it was cut off. In the video, some prisoners spoke in Italian and Albanian. They claimed that they had been raped by officers and opposed the installation of wiretapping devices in their cells. Among the concerns raised were overcrowding and hygiene conditions. During the riot, there were clashes with the police, while ambulances also arrived at the prison.

Dozens of family members and friends of the prisoners gathered outside the prison. After negotiations, about 50 people left the area they had taken control of, while a group of about 30 prisoners continued the protest, seeking a mediator. During the night, the revolt ended and the situation in the prison was brought back under control.

How Rama is leading the country towards civil strife

Insisting on violence, on arming civilians, on paying police officers as if they were mercenaries, alone does not produce peace. Edi Rama's fear of where he will end up when he is no longer prime minister does not have to become Albania's nightmare.

Andi Bushati: Why stones and Molotov cocktails became inevitable

This youth revolt has had a great merit. It made known to the general public the most criminal side of this regime that had until now been preserved in the most secretive recesses. If the extremely peaceful revolution of the flamingos showed us that this government was no longer popular, its radical epilogue, with stones and Molotov cocktails, is serving to bring to light that the autocrat is capable of using any means to stay in power.
