The Cristiano Ronaldo-Portugal affair, which erupted after the five-time Ballon d'Or winner walked out of the national team's training camp in protest at coach Jorge Jesus, has officially come to an end today. In fact, it all ended with a symbolic punishment for CR7, who was suspended for 30 days — a period that will allow him to be on the field on November 14 against Denmark — and fined… 255 euros.
Disciplinary decision
"For these reasons and based on the arguments presented, the Disciplinary Council – Non-professional Section – of the Portuguese Football Federation decides, within the framework of this procedure, to fully accept the accusation and, consequently, to declare Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro responsible for committing, once and intentionally, the disciplinary violation foreseen and punished by paragraph 1 of article 160 of the RDFPF. For this reason, a suspension measure of 30 (thirty) days is imposed on him and, as an additional measure, a fine of 2.5 UC, respectively 255.00 euros (two hundred and fifty-five euros)," the decision states.
The Disciplinary Council also announces that "the person against whom the accusation has been brought (Cristiano Ronaldo) has requested that the mitigating circumstances provided for in letters c) ('providing important services for football'), d) ('evaluation for sporting merit') and e) ('decisive contribution to the determination of the material truth') of paragraph 1 of article 44 of the RDFPF be taken into account. For this purpose, the footballer refers, on the one hand, to his sporting career, the trophies and awards won and, on the other hand, to the public statement published on 06.10.2026".
What did the regulation foresee for CR7?
"A regularly called-up footballer who leaves or is absent without justified reason from a training, match or activity of the national teams, or from an activity related to the sports representation of the FPF or Portugal, is punished with a suspension of one to six months and, as an additional measure, if it is a professional footballer, with a fine of 5 to 10 UC."
