In live broadcasts, anything can happen, but the golden rule of journalism always remains the same: the pencil is always at hand. This was also proven by the Tg Sport editorial team on Rai 2, the innocent protagonists of one of the most surreal and viral moments on Italian television in recent times.
While all of Italy was curiously following the preparations for the most beautiful day of the Italian national team and Manchester City goalkeeper, Gianluigi "Gigio" Donnarumma, and his historic partner Alessia Elefante, the live news took a completely unexpected turn.
Lapus during the direct connection from Puglia
The event took place in Locorotondo, a beautiful village in the Valle d'Itria, decorated to welcome the VIPs, family and fans who had come for the religious ceremony in the Madre di San Giorgio Martire Church. The atmosphere was that of a grand occasion: flowers, elegant dresses, television cameras and a crowd of curious people awaiting the couple's arrival. Journalist Donatella Cupertino, sent to the scene to report on the Rai 2 sports edition, opened the connection by showing the emotion that had taken over the town. At that very moment, fatigue, the direct pace or simply a mental confusion played a trick on her.
As she uttered the first words to describe the square full of people, the journalist said in a solemn tone: "Locorotondo is in a fever for the funeral of goalkeeper Gigio Donnarumma and his partner..."
Ma come i funerali di Donnarumma 💀

As if this incredible confusion weren't enough, a little later she made another slip, talking about the "mortal ceremony" instead of the wedding celebrations. A total verbal blockage that, in a few seconds, transformed a fairytale wedding into an event with completely dramatic tones.
Reaction on social media: the video has already become a cult
In an era where every second of broadcast is recorded and shared instantly, the episode could not go unnoticed. Within minutes, the video fragment spread across X, TikTok, and Instagram, racking up hundreds of thousands of views and prompting netizens to scoff.
The comments were very varied: some treated it with humor, talking about the "unpleasantness" that had to be avoided for the Italian goalkeeper, while others defended the journalist, remembering that emotions and anxiety during live broadcasts can happen to anyone.
An unforgettable wedding (in every sense)
Despite the journalistic gaffe, the wedding between goalkeeper Gigio Donnarumma and Alessia Elefantes took place normally and with the elegance that characterizes the couple, surrounded by friends, colleagues from the world of football and family. However, it remains certain that, among the many memories of this special day, the involuntary "prophecy" of Tg Sport will occupy a special place in the history of the most memorable gaffes of Italian television.
