Montella, Turkey decides to dismiss: agreement on salary of 183 thousand euros per month

The dismissal of coach Vincenzo Montella as Turkey coach, after the latest disappointing results between the World Cup and the Nations League, is only a matter of hours. The former "Aeroplanino" has in fact suffered 4 consecutive defeats in the last matches, including two defeats against Mancini's Italy. The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) is thus considering paying the Italian coach, who receives a salary of 183 thousand euros per month, a compensation equal to five months' salary and the case will be closed after the rumors of recent weeks. And to think that Montella only last year had renewed his contract, signing an agreement until the end of the 2028 European Championship, with a salary of 2.2 million euros per year.

The Turkish Federation has thus decided to pay him the next five months' salary in the form of compensation, after which the Italian coach's contract will be terminated. Montella, who has led the national team in 40 official and friendly matches, has won 21 of them, lost 14 and drawn 5. In the last 7 matches he has suffered 6 defeats and only one victory. Turkey has always supported him, also because of the results achieved from the beginning with the qualification for the World Cup, but recently the fans have also strongly demanded his resignation and perhaps this not very peaceful climate has also made everyone take this decision.

And to think that in the United States tournament, Turkey was mathematically eliminated from the group stage after the first two matches. Zero points in the first two appearances, but a total of 62 shots from Montella's team, which confirms the lack of precision in front of goal, which became decisive for the elimination. Montella has paid anyway – both in the World Cup and now – for the absence due to injury of important players for the growth of his team, such as Calhanoglu, absent throughout the Nations League, and above all Kenan Yildiz. The Juventus fantasy player had gone to the World Cup despite a less than optimal physical condition, which then forced him to return to Italy at the end of the tournament and undergo surgery after just a few matches.

In the last match played in the Nations League against Italy, moreover, Montella was forced to give up Arda Guler due to suspension. The federation had nevertheless entrusted him with the task of rebuilding the national team from the ground up, with the inclusion of young players who were not necessarily starters in their clubs. The federation's objective is to create a new generation of talents to grow, regardless of the results. However, it seems that something has broken with Montella, who has always defended the team, even after the match against Italy, emphasizing the continuity and commitment of the players on the field. Today comes the farewell from Turkey, 3 years after his appointment in 2023. Montella is thus one step away from leaving the Turkish national team, with a balance of 21 wins, 14 losses and 5 draws, as well as 66 goals scored and 58 conceded.
