An unprecedented incident occurred during a city council meeting in New Jersey, USA, when a mayor lost his temper and lunged at a citizen who was accusing him. It took the intervention of those present to prevent a physical confrontation.
Pemberton's 59-year-old mayor, Matthew Bianchini, admitted his behavior was inappropriate but insisted he had his reasons and that, if necessary, he would do the same thing again.
"Was it wrong? Absolutely. Was it justified? Absolutely. And I would do it again if I had to," he told the media, adding that the tension had been building for some time and that at one point "it just exploded."
The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, during a city council meeting. According to the video, resident Michael Socca reacted to comments allegedly made by the mayor's wife and daughter, initially trying to ignore them with hand gestures.
However, he then raised his middle finger at Bianchini, provoking his reaction. The mayor jumped out of his seat and charged at the citizen, shouting: “I will find you and I will... I will...!”
Speaking to the media, Bianchini tried to justify his behavior, while admitting he crossed the line. "I shouldn't have said that. It was wrong. It happened in the heat of the moment. I'm not going to hurt anyone," he said.
However, he immediately defended his reaction, claiming that the resident in question was systematically harassing his family. “Don’t attack my family. I think any good man and any good father would have done exactly what I did,” he said. ©LAPSI.al
