The American Chamber of Commerce in Albania (AmCham) has reacted through a statement regarding the situation created in recent days, raising concerns about the damage to businesses, the disruption of economic activity and the lack of necessary protection for enterprises.
In its response, AmCham emphasizes that the business community is facing financial losses and uncertainty, while calling on responsible institutions to guarantee public safety and the protection of private property.
According to the American Chamber, the situation created cannot be seen in isolation from the issues raised for years by businesses, which, according to it, have not received due attention from policymakers.
According to information provided by its members, a number of businesses are facing property damage and disruption of activity, suffering economic consequences. AmCham underlines that the consequences are not limited to business owners, but also affect employees and families who depend on their income.
The Chamber calls on the state to guarantee the necessary conditions for the exercise of economic activity and ensure the protection of citizens and private property.
In the statement, the American Chamber of Commerce recalls that for years it has collaborated with public institutions, presenting recommendations and proposals for changes to draft laws that affect the business environment.
"Despite these ongoing efforts, many of our members' concerns and recommendations have not received due attention and consideration," the statement said.
According to AmCham, long-standing issues continue to affect the business climate in Albania.
In this context, the Chamber also refers to the AmCham Business Index, which has identified corruption, monopolies, unfair competition, bureaucracy, and informality as concerns for businesses.
At the conclusion of the reaction, AmCham warns that the escalation of tensions and the lack of security could have long-term consequences for the Albanian economy.
The Chamber calls on the government and political actors to work to reduce tensions and guarantee public order, emphasizing the importance of protecting people, businesses and property.
According to her, uncertainty can damage the confidence of domestic and foreign investors, influencing decisions to invest, expand activity or keep capital in Albania.
The American Chamber's reaction once again places the business climate, the security of enterprises, and the responsibility of institutions to create sustainable conditions for the country's economic development at the center of the debate.
Full announcement from the American Chamber of Commerce in Albania
The American Chamber of Commerce in Albania would like to convey the serious concerns of its members regarding the situation that has arisen over the past few days. This response stems from the Chamber's responsibility to give voice to its membership and to bring reported issues to the attention of institutions and the public.
Ensuring public safety, protecting people and private property, respecting the rule of law, and preventing further escalation require commitment and coordinated action by relevant institutions. All actors have a responsibility to act constructively, reject violence, and contribute to creating the conditions for a meaningful dialogue through which legitimate concerns can be addressed in accordance with democratic mechanisms.
The Chamber also emphasizes that the current situation must be seen in the broader context of the challenges facing the business environment in Albania. For years, the AmCham has been actively engaged with public institutions, presenting recommendations and proposing amendments to draft laws, bylaws, and other regulatory measures that affect the business community. Despite these ongoing efforts, many of our members’ concerns and recommendations have not received due attention and consideration. Effective consultation with the business community is essential for designing sustainable policies, strengthening trust in institutions, and creating a predictable and competitive investment climate.
The latest edition of the AmCham Business Index (ABI) 2025–2026 also highlighted the challenges businesses face, including corruption, monopolies and unfair competition, bureaucracy and informality, alongside a significant decline in the perception of the business climate.
These ongoing challenges are now compounded by the uncertainty that has been created. According to reports that have been forwarded to us, many businesses have faced damage and disruption of activity, while expressing the feeling that they have been left without the necessary protection from responsible institutions. Behind every business stand employees and families, whose income and security depend on the continuity of work.
Prolonged instability could threaten the continuity and existence of businesses, with long-term consequences for the economy as a whole. Equally concerning is that uncertainty regarding the protection of people and property could undermine the confidence of domestic and foreign investors, influencing their investment decisions in Albania.
