The head of the Teachers' Union, Sandër Kovaçi, has declared that the teachers will continue to support the students in their protest, opposing police violence against young people. In a statement to the media, Kovaçi said that the teachers had gathered according to the announced schedule, at 10:00, to express solidarity with the students and to condemn any form of violence against them.
"We will be there to help the students in their protest. We have said that we are against police violence against students and violence does not offer a solution," he said. Kovaçi called on all those who are able to join the students in the protest held near Parliament, as a sign of support for their demands.
He also confirmed that the lecturers will gather again the next day, at 10:00, to continue their stance in support of the students.
"Since we are in the conditions where there is a protest at Parliament, everyone who can participate there to help the students and in the meantime we will be here again tomorrow at 10:00", declared the head of the Teachers' Union.
The teachers' support comes at a time when student protests and the reaction to police intervention have sparked debates over the right to protest and how protesters should be treated.
