In the last month, protests have erupted not only in Albania, but also in other countries, such as France and Italy. But there is a difference between the demonstrations in Paris and those in Tirana. In the French capital, the blue uniforms have in some cases taken off their helmets and joined the young protesters. This shows that first and foremost, the police are people and parents and know what it means to seek a better future.
Meanwhile, the opposite is happening in Albania, where despite young people calling on the police to throw away their uniforms, not only have they not joined them, but they have also used violence against them. The police are not the property of any government and the uniform should not become a wall between them and the people. The police are there to serve the citizens, to protect their rights and to guarantee security, not to intimidate those who seek change.
