Protests spread across the country/Boycott of teaching at universities, students

Hundreds of students have boycotted classes today to join a student protest that will take place in Tirana, but also in other cities. At 10:00, in front of the Sports Palace, there will be a gathering of young people, an announcement made by the Student Council of the University of Korça. Unlike other times, when student revolts have been accompanied by clashes and gatherings, this time the students of Korça announce a boycott and peaceful protests, without using violence against the police or businesses.

The University of Elbasan has also boycotted classes today, although some students have shown up in the auditoriums, classes have not been held. Students have expressed that they consider it shameful to continue classes while their peers are being killed in the capital. On the other hand, lecturers have warned that protests will continue every day, starting at 10:00, until the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.

This stance marks an expansion of the movement, which now also includes representatives from the academic world. • The head of the Teachers' Union, Sandër Kovaçi, has called on the prime minister to take political responsibility and step down, arguing that the students' demands have not received the proper response from the government.

The University Union has decided to boycott teaching at all public universities in the country, in a sign of solidarity with the students and pupils who have been protesting against the government for days and demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama. The decision was taken by the Union Presidency during the protest held the day before by students and lecturers, who marched towards the Prime Minister's Office and rejected the Prime Minister's offer for dialogue.

How Rama is leading the country towards civil strife

Insisting on violence, on arming civilians, on paying police officers as if they were mercenaries, alone does not produce peace. Edi Rama's fear of where he will end up when he is no longer prime minister does not have to become Albania's nightmare.

Andi Bushati: Why stones and Molotov cocktails became inevitable

This youth revolt has had a great merit. It made known to the general public the most criminal side of this regime that had until now been preserved in the most secretive recesses. If the extremely peaceful revolution of the flamingos showed us that this government was no longer popular, its radical epilogue, with stones and Molotov cocktails, is serving to bring to light that the autocrat is capable of using any means to stay in power.
