Police violence in its own courtyard, Orthodox Church against police: Respect

The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania has reacted after tensions in the protest and images of clashes in the courtyard of the "Resurrection of Christ" Cathedral in Tirana, expressing concern and calling for respect for holy places.

Through a response published on social media, KOASH emphasizes that spaces of worship should not become places of clashes and conflicts.

"Following the images of the events in the courtyard of the 'Resurrection of Christ' Cathedral in Tirana, we express our concern and call for our holy places to be respected. They are never spaces of conflict or clash and do not accept them," the Church's statement said.

In its response, the Church underlines the importance of the cathedral as a place of prayer and religious services, where the message of peace is conveyed.

"The 'Resurrection of Christ' Cathedral is a sacred place of prayer, a place where sacred services are performed and where the culture of peace is preached," the statement further emphasizes.

Andi Bushati: Why stones and Molotov cocktails became inevitable

This youth revolt has had a great merit. It made known to the general public the most criminal side of this regime that had until now been preserved in the most secretive recesses. If the extremely peaceful revolution of the flamingos showed us that this government was no longer popular, its radical epilogue, with stones and Molotov cocktails, is serving to bring to light that the autocrat is capable of using any means to stay in power.
