Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu planned to launch air strikes against Iran earlier this month, but US President Donald Trump opposed rekindling hostilities before the US midterm elections, according to the Financial Times. Three sources told the newspaper that the Israeli Armed Forces (IDF) were prepared to carry out strikes on the weekend of October 10, targeting Iranian nuclear and regime facilities, as well as civilian infrastructure, including power plants.
However, according to sources, Trump has decided not to reignite the conflict before the US midterm elections, which are scheduled for November 3. The same sources report that the planned strikes will be more intense than those launched jointly by the US and Israel in February. The report comes two days after reports that US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth made a secret visit to Israel and met with Netanyahu to discuss “threats in the region.”
