The Mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, confirmed on Thursday in a response to journalists that he will enter the race to take over the leadership of the Democratic League of Kosovo.
"Did you hear that I said I would be [a candidate for president]?" Rama declared when asked if he would run for the leadership of the oldest party in Kosovo.
He also spoke about the future of the current party leader, Lumir Abdixhiku, suggesting that it would be better for him to resign from the position of LDK leader.
"I think he would have done well [to resign], that's what he should do," said Rama, who has often proven that he does not hesitate to stir up trouble within the LDK.
Abdixhiku was elected chairman of the LDK in 2021 and re-elected in 2023. In January 2026, after offering his resignation, the delegates of the LDK Assembly voted for him to remain chairman, while Rama won two local elections under the LDK banner, in 2021 and 2025, but has always insisted that he is not a member of the LDK.
