What's happening on the Boulevard?/ Protesters reach agreement with police

"Dëshmorët e Kombit" Boulevard has fallen silent after 4 days. On Friday evening, protesters approached the police forces and shook hands, declaring that they were not their target, but Edi Rama.

After a few moments of "negotiations" it was agreed that the security forces would withdraw from the boulevard and the young people would protest peacefully.

A young man emphasized that the parties have reached an understanding, without the need for other guarantees.

"These are Albanians too," he says of the police officers, adding that they are carrying out orders from their leaders.

However, the young man says he is disappointed by the peaceful protests, as, according to him, they have not brought the expected results.

"I'm for the protest that works. Everyone knows that's what works. We're tired of peaceful protests," he declares.

The protester further uses harsh language towards Prime Minister Edi Rama, calling him the "cancer of Albania" and claiming that violence is the only path left for the protesters.

"We will not let them put us down, these are Albanians too, they have taken orders from the head of the government who is the cancer of Albania. Only violence works here, they have left us no other way. The police have families. They must resign," he said. /LAPSI.al

How Rama is leading the country towards civil strife

Insisting on violence, on arming civilians, on paying police officers as if they were mercenaries, alone does not produce peace. Edi Rama's fear of where he will end up when he is no longer prime minister does not have to become Albania's nightmare.

Andi Bushati: Why stones and Molotov cocktails became inevitable

This youth revolt has had a great merit. It made known to the general public the most criminal side of this regime that had until now been preserved in the most secretive recesses. If the extremely peaceful revolution of the flamingos showed us that this government was no longer popular, its radical epilogue, with stones and Molotov cocktails, is serving to bring to light that the autocrat is capable of using any means to stay in power.
