Andre Onana had another very positive evening on Thursday, defending Trabzonspor's goal in the Conference League. The goalkeeper kept a clean sheet in the second European match, in which the Turkish club recorded their second consecutive victory. Unfortunately, the following evening did not go as well for him, as he ended up in hospital after being involved in an accident on Yomra Road, near the tourist area of Trabzon, on the Black Sea coast.
Onana, after the accident ends up in hospital: his condition is good
His vehicle, a luxury Hongqi E-HS9 worth 150,000 euros, nicknamed the “Chinese Rolls-Royce”, was hit by another car and then crashed into a vehicle in front of it. The chain accident required the intervention of the Turkish traffic police and rescue teams. Andre Onana, who was caught in the middle of the collision, was transported to the nearest hospital in Trabzon for further checks. He was classified as a green code, indicating a non-urgent case, and his condition did not cause concern.
The incident particularly shocked Trabzonspor fans, who are now getting used to the excellent performances of the former Inter and Manchester United goalkeeper. Onana has been transferred to the Turkish championship on loan, while his card continues to be owned by the English club. To calm everyone down, the club's president, Ertugrul Dogan, also reacted, dismissing any concerns about the goalkeeper's condition: "He has no health problems, despite being involved in a car accident. We wish him a speedy recovery."
The news is encouraging and it is expected that Onana will return to the field soon, starting on Monday, October 26, in the match against Rizespor, for the ninth week of the championship. Trabzonspor is ranked fourth, three points behind the leader.
Andre Onana has rediscovered himself in Turkey
Onana finally seems to have found the composure he needs to return to top-flight form. In 2022, he moved from Ajax to Inter with zero parameters, before staying for just one year at the Italian club and being sold for €57.5 million to Manchester United. However, he never managed to find continuity in his performances at the English club. In the summer of 2025, he was loaned to Trabzonspor, while his contract with Manchester United expires only in 2027.
