After the clashes and destruction of last weekend in Milan, from Turin to Milan, passing through Rome and up to Castel Volturno, protests return to the squares: against war, rearmament, the increase in the cost of living and the residence centers for the repatriation of immigrants (CPR).
However, the map of the October 17 Movement has changed: the squares announced in recent days have been canceled and new gathering points will be announced today, Saturday, October 24, shortly before the start of the protests, scheduled for 2:30 PM.
In Milan, while it remains unclear whether there will be a protest in Piazza Duomo, where calls for 3 p.m. are circulating on social media, grassroots unions will gather in Piazza Cavour in the morning against the increase in the cost of living. In the morning, at 10 a.m., a protest by the "Students with the Tricolor" group is planned in Piazza XXV Aprile, while in the afternoon a pro-Palestinian event will take place in Piazza Leonardo da Vinci.
In Rome, the day begins at 10:00 with the right-wing march, organized by the Gioventù Nazionale, from Piazza della Libertà to Piazza Risorgimento. At 14:00, from Piazza della Repubblica, the national manifestation "Italy out of war" will start. Meanwhile, the Circo Massimo, which was initially designated by the October 17 Movement as a rallying point, is no longer the planned location for the protest.
There will also be a protest against rearmament in Turin, at 3:00 PM, from Piazza Castello, with the march "We will not pay for the war", organized by the coordination "Turin against rearmament", together with Askatasuna and students. High school students will gather at 2:00 PM in Piazza Arbarello, while university students will depart from Palazzo Nuovo.
In Aosta, at 3:00 PM, in Piazza Chanoux, the group "We are the people" will protest on issues related to education, fuel price increases, wages, rents and healthcare.
In Genoa, the location initially chosen by the October 17 Movement was Piazza De Ferrari, but, as in other cities in Italy, this decision has been canceled and the new gathering point will only be announced at the last moment. Protesters are expected to take to the streets again. Due to the total uncertainty, the police have prepared an extensive but flexible security plan in case protesters gather at several points in the city.
In the Emilia-Romagna region, in Bologna, the Làbas and Tpo collectives have organized a demonstration against what they describe as "the government's intensification of repressive measures."
In Forli, the participation of the Generation Z movement is expected, especially after the controversy over the rally announced by Forza Nuova in Piazzale della Vittoria, where leader Roberto Fiore is also expected to be present.
In the Veneto region, in Padua, a peace protest will take place at 11:00 in Piazza delle Erbe, as well as an activity on school issues in Piazza Garibaldi, where another rally is scheduled for 14:30.
In Verona, a demonstration for Moussa Diarra will be held at 10:00, while a protest against excise taxes and war is planned for 15:00.
In Florence, according to reports circulating in online chats, two possible demonstrations have been announced. The group “We the People – Another Movement” has scheduled a meeting in Piazza della Signoria. Meanwhile, the October 17 Movement had initially announced a gathering in Piazza Santa Maria Novella, but the meeting has been canceled, as in other cities, and the new location has not yet been announced. Rallies and marches are also expected in the rest of Tuscany.
In the Campania region, in Naples, at 3:00 PM, a protest will take place in Piazza del Plebiscito against the increase in the cost of living.
Meanwhile, thousands of people are expected to gather in Castel Volturno, including representatives of the diocese, Caritas, the Libera organization, associations, immigrants and agricultural workers. They will march against the project to build a center for the stay of immigrants awaiting repatriation (CPR), with a capacity of 120 places. The president of the Region, Roberto Fico, is also expected to participate in the event.
