French President Emmanuel Macron announced a ban on demonstrations not organized by unions, ahead of demonstrations on Saturday, October 24.
"The general recommendation is that demonstrations should not take place in the coming days," Macron stressed.
The French president claimed that far-left groups were behind Saturday's incidents, planning to overthrow the government.
In addition, Emmanuel Macron also announced that on Friday, the Defense Council will meet to make additional decisions, as security forces are under pressure.
Most cities in France, and specifically Paris, will be in lockdown, for fear of new incidents. In Paris, public gatherings are banned from 8 p.m., while a curfew is in effect in Place de la Démocratie from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
In addition to the strong presence of police forces, the special anti-terrorist unit created in 2015 will be used. The military team's goal will be to protect businesses and shops from damage and looting.
