Teachers have joined the protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office, rejecting Edi Rama's offer for dialogue, while the protest of students and young people continues in Tirana.
The Prime Minister had placed some chairs in front of the government building in an attempt to invite the protesters to dialogue. The director of MIA, Manjola Hasa, also came out to communicate with the teachers, but the offer was not accepted.
Teacher Aleksandër Kovaçi stated that after the violence against students, there is no longer room for negotiations with the prime minister. He emphasized that it is the students who decide to continue the protest, while teachers support their demands.
According to Kovaç, five months of protests without a concrete response from the government and violent police interventions have made dialogue impossible. He insisted that the only solution is Edi Rama's resignation.
Aleksandër Kovaçi: Even the prime minister himself cannot communicate with these people. The only communication is his resignation.
We didn't listen. We don't accept dialogue. We don't have control over it. Who are we? We are with the students. Students have said there is no dialogue, there is only a solution. The solution is the resignation of the Prime Minister, that's all.
Journalist: Who broke the chairs?
Aleksandër Kovaçi: The students have broken the chairs, because they are the ones who are in communication. The teachers have nothing in their hands. We only support the students. They have said there is no dialogue with violence. The use of violence has eliminated dialogue. People have been protesting for 5 months, and there is no dialogue of any kind. Today is not the time for dialogue. It is the time for resignation. Those chairs are to be broken.
Journalist: Has Rama said he will not resign?
Aleksandër Kovaçi: He bears responsibility for what he says, the protest continues.
Journalist: How do you see the situation of students?
Aleksandër Kovaçi: People have given 13 years to politics, they have given the prime minister time to improve the situation. The situation has gotten even worse and worse. That's why there is a revolt.
