Mark Gjonaj has sent a letter to Prime Minister Edi Rama, condemning police violence against young people protesting in Albania.
In his reaction, Gjonaj expresses concern about the treatment of protesters and calls for independent investigations into cases of police violence, as well as holding those responsible accountable.
Gjonaj considers violence against protesters unacceptable and emphasizes that no political interest can justify endangering the lives of citizens.
"No political victory is worth as much as the life of an Albanian," is the message he conveys in his stance.
Through the letter, Mark Gjonaj also announces his resignation from the Diaspora Council, with immediate effect.
He also raises the issue of the need for a transitional government and democratic reforms, calling for changes in the political direction of the country. According to his position, a change of leadership is the way out of the current situation.
Gjonaj's reaction comes at a time when student and youth protests in Albania have sparked debates over the use of force by the police, institutional accountability, and respect for the right to peaceful protest.
