A formal vote was held today in the Municipal Council of Belsh to oppose the merger of the municipality into a single one with Elbasan. The vote has no legal value except that it will be noted as such in the history books as it now appears that the decision was taken by the SP majority to move forward with the merger of the 15 municipalities.
But what is interesting about this development is the fact that the 10 SP members in the Belsh Municipal Council did not even have the courage to vote against the merger of the municipality. They are so castrated in the face of the party-state that they dare not even once be on the side of the citizens.
Of course, they understand that the merger of the municipality is not in the interest of the community, but it is in their interest not to ruin it with the party alone. Albania is in this position also due to the fact that at all levels of government, especially delenxhinj, people without integrity and without civic courage are appointed first.
To a large extent, we only have loyal soldiers of the party and their political bosses. What happened in Belsh today was one of the latest in a series of many such tests that we have seen and will surely see in the future. ©LAPSI.al
