It's hard to believe that Trayvone Reid, the 26-year-old Jamaican striker, knows the legendary monologue given by Paolo Rossi to Evaristo Beccalossi, who immortalized the two penalties missed in a few minutes by the eccentric Inter player against Slovan Bratislava: "He put the ball on the penalty spot with the certainty of a man who would never make a mistake again... and he made a mistake again!" Reid did not repeat this episode in the same match, but a week later, between the first and second leg of the CONCACAF Caribbean Cup semi-final between his team Mount Pleasant and Club Sando, a team from Trinidad and Tobago.
The comparison came to mind because Reid showed exactly that overconfidence, bordering on stubbornness, by identically repeating the “slow-motion” execution that had gone viral a few days earlier, when he scored from the penalty spot in the 1-1 draw of the first match. Below is the video of the first penalty. At the time, we wrote about the “slowest penalty in history,” with 16 seconds of preparation, or rather walking, to cover about six meters. This time, Trayvone proved to be a little faster, but it still took him more than 10 seconds.

Reid goes viral again with incredibly slow penalty
It was clear that he wanted to show everyone that he was not afraid to try the same move again, with the same confidence, without worrying that he might make a mistake again and end up at the center of ridicule on social media. Step by step, Reid approached the ball and this time hit it to the other side, to the left of goalkeeper Teshorne Ragoo, who managed to intercept it with a quick reaction. After that, Trayvone covered his face with his jersey, showing at that moment more shame than confidence. "I can't believe it," the commentator shouted as soon as he saw that Reid was preparing to repeat the same scene as in the first game.
Despite two missed penalties by their leading scorer, Mount Pleasant won the second leg 2-0 and qualified for the Caribbean Cup final, where they will face the winner of the other semi-final between Jamaican side Portmore United and Haitian side Violette Athletic Club. The first leg between them had ended 3-1 in favor of Portmore United.

Jamaica coach Theodore Whitmore defended his player, confirming that he will continue to take penalties. "Trayvone is our first choice, despite the two mistakes. If the opportunity arises again, it will be him again," the coach declared. And perhaps Reid will be tempted to repeat the same execution once again, with the certainty of a man who would never make a mistake ... and who ends up making a mistake again.
